About Us

1975 Jim Boudoures left San Francisco where he lived and attended San Francisco State University and moved to Anderson Valley. Jim bought a portable sawmill and went into business sawing lumber for the many Bright-liters (Boontling for City Folks) settling in the Anderson Valley area. Jim also opened a chainsaw sales and repair shop, and thus began Philo Saw Works. In 1978 he sold the saw shop to better allow him to concentrate on the sawmill and new fledgling construction business. By 1980, Jim was spending more time building than sawing and by 1981 he hired his first full time carpenter. In 1986 Doug Read was hired and remained his top hand till retiring in 2014. In 1996 Mike Rexford joined the team and has been leading our framing and concrete crew ever since. In 2003 Jimís son, Peter started full time with the family business and in 2005 his other son, Jack also decided to make construction his career. Today they are both partners in the business and together are planning to carry on the Philo Saw Works tradition of fine building into the future.
